SMS Verification

Program Name: Sivil SMS Notifications

Business Name: Sivil Inc.

Phone Number Collection & SMS Consent

During account registration, users are presented with a phone verification step. The phone number is used exclusively for one-time password (OTP) verification codes to secure the account.

Adult users verify a phone number as part of registration; teen users (13–17) may skip this step with the “Not now” option and add a number later from account settings. Children under 13 never provide their own phone number — see the COPPA section below.

No verification code is sent until the user has checked the SMS consent checkbox and tapped “Send Code”.

Consent Language Shown to Users

The following consent language is shown next to a required consent checkbox on the phone verification screen, alongside links to our SMS Terms and Privacy Policy. The “Send Code” button does not send anything until the box is checked:

I agree to receive a one-time SMS verification code from Sivil. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.

COPPA — Parental Consent via SMS

For users under 13, Sivil is required by the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) to obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting personal information. As part of this process, the child's parent or guardian is asked to provide their phone number.

A single SMS message is sent to the parent or guardian to verify their approval. No further messages are sent to the parent unless they separately create a Sivil account.
